Husbands Run is a small stream, about 1.71 mi (2.75 km) long, located in New Castle County, Delaware. It flows into Brandywine Creek, which is a larger stream. This run is an important part of the local water system. It flows through the beautiful DuPont Country Club in northern Wilmington, Delaware.
What is Husbands Run?
Husbands Run is a tributary, which means it's a smaller stream that flows into a larger one. In this case, it joins the Brandywine Creek. The stream is quite short, measuring just over 1.7 miles (2.7 kilometers). It helps carry water from the land into the larger river system.
Where Does Husbands Run Start and End?
Husbands Run begins in an area called Talleyville, Delaware. Its source is located where the land divides the water flow between Brandywine Creek and Shellpot Creek. This starting point is about 360 feet (110 meters) above sea level.
The stream then flows generally southwest. It ends when it empties into Brandywine Creek. This meeting point is in Wilmington, Delaware, at an elevation of about 110 feet (34 meters).
The Water System
Husbands Run is part of a bigger network of waterways. It belongs to the Christina River system. This means that all the water from Husbands Run eventually flows into the Christina River. The area of land that drains water into Husbands Run is called its basin. This basin covers about 1.53 square miles (3.96 square kilometers).
The stream also has its own smaller streams that flow into it. One of these is called Willow Run, which joins Husbands Run from the left side. There are also other small, unnamed streams that contribute water to Husbands Run.
