Hyder Valley facts for kids
The Hyder Valley is a long, narrow area of land in southwest Arizona. It stretches for about 20 miles (32 kilometers). This valley is part of the larger Gila River Valley and is located near the town of Hyder. The Gila River flows through this region. The Hyder Valley is found in the northwestern part of the Sonoran Desert.
Location and Geography
The Hyder Valley is located north of the Gila River. It is in the southwestern part of Arizona. The valley runs in a southwest-to-northeast direction. The Gila River also flows in this same general direction.
Nearby Valleys and Plains
To the southwest, the Park Valley connects with the Hyder Valley. The Hyder Valley also provides a way to reach the Dendora Valley to the northeast. The Dendora Valley is near the western edge of the Painted Rock Dam and its Reservoir.
Surrounding Mountains and Plains
On the western side of the Hyder Valley are the Palomas Mountains. To the north, you'll find the Palomas Plain. This plain collects water from three other mountain ranges. The eastern part of the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge is also to the north. To the northeast, you can see Face Mountain and the Gila Bend Mountains. South of the Gila River, to the southeast, lies the Sentinel Plain.
