Hydetown is in the eastern part of Crawford County. It is surrounded by Oil Creek Township.
A main road, Pennsylvania Route 8, goes through the borough. This road can take you about 3 miles (5 km) southeast to Titusville. It also goes north about 6 miles (10 km) to Centerville. Another road, Pennsylvania Route 408, leads west about 8 miles (13 km) to Townville.
The United States Census Bureau says that Hydetown covers an area of about 2.2 square miles (5.8 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Hydetown is just south of an area that was shaped by glaciers a long time ago. These glaciers were huge sheets of ice that moved across the land.
The borough has two important creeks. Oil Creek flows through the northwestern and southwestern parts of Hydetown. Thompson Creek comes from the northeast and joins Oil Creek.
The lowest point in Hydetown is 1,220 feet (372 meters) above sea level. This is where Oil Creek leaves the borough. The highest point is 1,560 feet (475 meters) above sea level. This high point is found at the eastern edge of the borough.
