IJsselmuiden is a town in the Netherlands. It is located in the province of Overijssel. You can find it in the municipality of Kampen, just across the IJssel river from the city of Kampen.
Until 2001, IJsselmuiden was its own separate municipality. Then, it became part of Kampen. The town has an old church that was built around the year 1200.
A Look Back in Time
IJsselmuiden was first mentioned in a document in 1133. Its name means "the mouth of the IJssel river." It started as a village built along a dike. This dike was next to an old part of the IJssel river. After the Mastenbroek area was finished, this part of the river became a small stream.
In 1646, a bridge was built connecting IJsselmuiden to Kampen. The main church, called the Dutch Reformed Church, dates back to 1200. However, it was greatly rebuilt and updated between 1911 and 1912. In 1840, about 520 people lived in IJsselmuiden.
In 1865, the Kampen railway station opened. Even though it's called Kampen station, it was actually built on the IJsselmuiden side of the river. The original plan was to put the station right in IJsselmuiden. But they decided to build it about 350 meters west, on land that belonged to Kampen.
