Igor Anatolyevich Pashkevich (Russian: Игорь Анатольевич Пашкевич; born July 1, 1971 – died March 26, 2016) was a talented figure skating coach and competitor. He was known for his graceful skating and strong performances. Igor won a gold medal at the World Junior Championships in 1990 while representing the Soviet Union. Later, he earned a silver medal at the European Championships in 1996 for Russia. He also competed in two Winter Olympics, representing Russia in 1994 and Azerbaijan in 1998.

Igor Pashkevich started his journey in figure skating in 1976. He quickly showed great promise in the sport.

Early Days and Big Wins

At the beginning of his career, Igor Pashkevich skated for the Soviet Union. He achieved a major victory by winning the gold medal at the 1990 World Junior Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This was a big moment for him as a young skater.

After the Soviet Union broke up, Igor began to represent Russia. His first big competition as a senior skater was the 1993 World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic, where he finished 14th.

In February 1994, Igor Pashkevich competed in the Winter Olympics held in Lillehammer, Norway. He finished 15th in this prestigious event. The next month, he placed 9th at the 1994 World Championships in Chiba, Japan.

His final season skating for Russia was 1995–96. During this time, he had some impressive results. He won a gold medal at the 1995 Finlandia Trophy. He also earned silver medals at the 1995 NHK Trophy and the 1996 European Championships.

Skating for Azerbaijan

For the 1996–97 season, Igor Pashkevich decided to switch and represent Azerbaijan. This was a new chapter in his skating career. He continued to compete strongly at international events. He placed seventh at the 1997 European Championships. He then finished eighth at the 1997 World Championships.

The following season was his last as a competitive skater. He won a bronze medal at the 1997 Trophée Lalique. He also secured a silver medal at the 1997 Nations Cup. These results helped him qualify for the Champions Series Final, where he placed sixth. He later competed at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, finishing 16th. During this period, he was coached by Marina Kudriavtseva. He retired from competitive skating at the end of that season.

Life After Competing

After he stopped competing, Igor Pashkevich performed in ice shows for two years. He then started a new career as a coach. He coached many skaters in the United States and Russia. Some of the well-known skaters he worked with include Angela Nikodinov, Fumie Suguri, Polina Shelepen, Yulia Lipnitskaya, Evgenia Medvedeva, and Daniel Samohin. In 2016, he was part of the coaching team at Palm Beach Ice Works. He also worked as an ISU technical specialist, helping to judge and oversee skating competitions.
