Igor Vovkovinskiy (Ukrainian: Ігор Вовковинський, romanized: Ihor Vovkovynskyj; September 18, 1982 – August 20, 2021) was a Ukrainian-American who became famous for being the tallest person living in the United States. He stood at an impressive 7 feet 8+1⁄3 inches (234.5 cm) tall. Igor was also known as Igor Ladan.
Igor was born in Ukraine. When he was seven years old, in 1989, he moved to Rochester, Minnesota. He went there to get special medical care at the Mayo Clinic. Even at that young age, he was already very tall, measuring at least 6 feet (182.9 cm).
What Made Igor Famous?
Igor Vovkovinskiy was well-known for several things. He appeared in commercials and movies, including the 2011 comedy Hall Pass. He also gained attention for wearing a T-shirt that said "World's Biggest Obama Supporter" at a rally for Barack Obama.
Igor was the first person to be officially recognized as the tallest living person from two countries. He also joined singer Zlata Ognevich on stage. They represented Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013.
Why Was Igor So Tall?
Igor's great height was caused by a medical condition. He had a growth on his pituitary gland. This gland is in the brain and controls growth hormones. The growth caused his body to release too much growth hormone. This made him grow much taller than most people.
In 2019, Igor shared on his YouTube channel that he was getting treatment for a heart problem. He passed away on August 20, 2021, at the age of 38.
