Exploring Imogene Lake's Location

Imogene Lake is nestled in a wild and scenic part of Idaho. It is surrounded by tall peaks and forests. The lake gets its water from Hell Roaring Creek, which also flows out of the lake. This creek eventually joins the larger Salmon River.

Getting to Imogene Lake

Reaching Imogene Lake is an adventure! You can get close to it from State Highway 75. This highway runs through the beautiful Sawtooth Valley.

To reach the lake, you will need to use a trailhead. One trailhead is found at the end of Sawtooth National Forest road 097. This road is a bit rough, so you might need a vehicle that sits high off the ground.

Another trailhead is about two miles further along forest road 210. This path is easier for regular cars and also for horses. Both trails lead you into the wilderness.

The Sawtooth Wilderness Experience

Imogene Lake is located within the Sawtooth Wilderness. This means it is a protected area where nature is kept wild. When you visit, you will need a wilderness permit. You can usually get these permits at the trailheads.

The lake itself has a few very small islands. The number of islands can change depending on how much water is in the lake. The biggest island is less than 200 feet (61 m) long.
