Ina Balin (born November 12, 1937 – died June 20, 1990) was an American actress. She was famous for acting in movies, TV shows, and on stage. Ina Balin is especially known for her role in the movie From the Terrace (1960). For this role, she won a Golden Globe Award for being a promising new actress.

Early Life
Ina Balin was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her father, Sam Rosenberg, was a dancer, singer, and comedian. He later joined his family's fur business. Her mother was a professional dancer from Hungary. Ina and her brother, Richard Balin, were placed in boarding schools when they were young. Later, their mother married Harold Balin, a shoe businessman, who adopted Ina and Richard.
Ina Balin finished high school when she was 15 years old. She had spent five years at a boarding school in Pennsylvania.
Acting Career
Ina Balin had a long career in acting. She appeared in many television shows and movies. She also performed on Broadway.
Television Roles
Ina Balin first appeared on TV on The Perry Como Show. She was a guest star on many popular TV shows. Some of these include Wonder Woman, Bonanza, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Six Million Dollar Man, and Battlestar Galactica. She also appeared in Magnum, P.I. and Ironside.
In 1969, she acted with Joseph Cotten in a TV movie called The Lonely Profession.
Stage Performances
Ina Balin performed in "summer stock" plays. These are plays performed in theaters during the summer. This led her to act on Broadway. Her first Broadway role was as Ruth in a play called Compulsion. In 1959, she played Alice Black in the comedy A Majority of One.
Film Roles
In 1959, Ina Balin got her first movie role in The Black Orchid. She played the love interest of Paul Newman in the 1960 movie From the Terrace. In 1961, she was Pilar Graile in The Comancheros, starring with John Wayne.
She also acted with Jerry Lewis in the comedy The Patsy (1964). In 1965, she had a part in The Greatest Story Ever Told. She also co-starred with Elvis Presley in his 1969 movie Charro!. Later, she appeared in The Projectionist (1971) and The Comeback Trail (1982). She was also in the 1961 hospital drama The Young Doctors.
Awards and Recognition
In 1959, Ina Balin won the Theatre World Award. This was for her acting in the Broadway comedy A Majority of One.
In 1961, she won the New Star of the Year-Actress Golden Globe Award. This was for her great performance in From the Terrace. She was also nominated for another Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Humanitarian Work
Ina Balin was also known for her humanitarian work. In 1966, she visited Vietnam with the USO. She made many trips to the country during the war.
In 1975, she helped evacuate orphans during the fall of Saigon. This was a very important event at the end of the Vietnam War. She later adopted three of these orphaned children. In 1980, she played herself in a TV movie about her experiences. The movie was called The Children of An Lac.
Later Years and Death
Ina Balin passed away on June 20, 1990, in New Haven, Connecticut. She was 52 years old. She died from complications of a lung disease called pulmonary hypertension. This condition causes high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. She had been hoping for a lung transplant.
She was a single mother and was survived by her father, her three adopted children, and her brother.
