Indian Bayou (which is Bayou Indien in French) is a small, quiet community in southwestern Louisiana, United States. It's located in Vermilion Parish. This area is not a city or a town with its own government. Instead, it's called an unincorporated community. It's part of the Abbeville area.
Indian Bayou is about seven miles south of Rayne. It's also eight miles north of Kaplan. The community is about fourteen miles southwest of Lafayette. The name "Indian Bayou" comes from a slow-moving stream or river called a bayou. This bayou forms part of the northern border of Vermilion Parish.

The Indian Bayou School has been an important part of the community for many years. At one time, it taught students from Kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. This meant it was a school for all ages, from young children to teenagers.
