A Look at Indian Head Park's Past
The area where Indian Head Park is located has a long history. In 1835, the first political meeting for the Democratic Party in Cook County took place here. Back then, Cook County was much larger, including parts of other counties we know today. This area was called Lyonsville.
Native American History
Just north of the village, there was once one of the last camps of the Potawatomi Native American tribe in Illinois. This shows the deep history of the land.
A Stop on the Underground Railroad
The Lyonsville Congregational Church, located at Joliet and Wolf roads, played a special role in history. It was once a stop on the Underground Railroad. This was a secret network that helped enslaved people find freedom.
