Ingrid Antonijevic facts for kids

Ingrid Antonijevic Hahn (born on July 22, 1952) is a Chilean economist, entrepreneur, and academic. She served as the Minister of Economy, Development and Reconstruction in 2006. This was during the first government of President Michelle Bachelet.

In her younger years, she was involved with the MAPU organization. After the end of the Pinochet government, she helped start the Party for Democracy (PPD). This party played a big role in Chile's move towards democracy. Ingrid Antonijevic is known for being a forward-thinking businesswoman. She believes companies should help society and work with the government on projects that benefit everyone. She is also recognized for holding important jobs that were often held by men before.

Her Early Life and Education

Ingrid Antonijevic was born in Iquique, a port city in northern Chile. Her family was from the upper middle class and had conservative political views. Her father, Leandro Antonijevic Bezmalinović, was an entrepreneur who came from Croatia. Her mother, Ingeborg Hahn Von Neumann, was from Germany.

When Ingrid was seven, her family moved to Santiago, Chile. She continued her schooling there and was an excellent student. She later graduated with a degree in economics from the University of Chile. As a young student, she joined the MAPU organization. This group was part of the Popular Unity government led by Salvador Allende. This government was overthrown by a military coup on September 11, 1973.

Recognitions and Interests

In 2006, the University of Chile honored her with the Circle of Honour award. This award recognized her contributions to the public sector and her achievements as one of the university's most notable graduates.

Ingrid Antonijevic has been interested in meditation for many years. After a trip to Japan, she became very interested in Zen meditation. She studied with the Zen Buddhist priest Gudo Wafu Nishijima. Today, she lives and works in Santiago, Chile. She encourages her employees to practice Zen meditation at work. She has two older sisters, Nadja and Ilona. She also has two children, Felipe and Carolina Saint Jean, and two grandchildren.
