Inva Mula is a famous Albanian opera singer, known as a lyric soprano. She was born on June 27, 1963. Both her father, Avni Mula, and her mother, Nina Mula, were also opera singers. Many people also know her voice from the movie The Fifth Element, where she sang for the character Diva Plavalaguna.

Inva Mula's Early Life and Career

Inva Mula was born in Tirana, Albania. Her father, Avni Mula, was from Gjakova in Kosovo, and her mother, Nina Mula, was from Izhevsk in Russia.

Inva Mula started winning singing competitions early in her career. In 1987, she won the Cantante d'Albania competition in Tirana. The next year, in 1988, she won the George Enescu Competition in Bucharest. In 1992, she won the Butterfly competition in Barcelona. She also received an award at Plácido Domingo's first Operalia International Opera Competition in Paris in 1993.

Famous Opera Performances

Inva Mula has performed in many important opera houses and concerts around the world. She has sung in Paris, Brussels, Munich, and Oslo.

In 1996, she performed in the opera Médée by Luigi Cherubini in France. This performance was even recorded for TV! Later, in 1998, she sang in Bizet's opera La jolie fille de Perth. This performance was released as a CD and a DVD.

She also recorded Puccini's opera La rondine. In 2005, she took on the main role of Magda in stage performances of La rondine in Toulouse and Paris. She also performed Bizet's Ivan IV in a concert, which was released as a live CD.

In 2001, Inva Mula was very busy in Italy. She performed in Verdi's Falstaff at the Teatro alla Scala and in Rigoletto at the Verona Arena. Both of these performances were filmed for TV and released on DVD.

Popular Opera Roles

Inva Mula has sung in many well-known operas, including Lucia di Lammermoor, La bohème, and Manon. She is especially famous for her role as Violetta in La traviata. She has performed this role in many cities worldwide, such as Tokyo, Bilbao, Orange, Trieste, and Toronto.

In 2007, she played Adina in L'elisir d'amore in Toulouse. In 2009, she sang the main role in Gounod's Mireille with the Paris Opera at the Palais Garnier. This performance was also released on DVD. Also in 2009, she released an album called Il Bel Sogno, which is a collection of famous opera songs.

Inva Mula often performs with the French-Albanian pianist Genc Tukiçi.

Personal Life

Inva Mula's former husband, Pirro Çako, is a well-known singer and composer from Albania. For a while, she used the name Inva Mula Çako. However, since the mid-1990s, she has used only the name Inva Mula. Her current husband is Hetem Ramadani, who is a businessman from Kosovo.

Inva Mula in Movies

Many people in Western countries know Inva Mula best for her singing voice in the 1997 movie The Fifth Element. In the film, the character Diva Plavalaguna, played by Maïwenn Le Besco, sings with Inva Mula's voice. In the movie, she is credited as Inva Mula Çako. She performed a famous song called "Il dolce suono" from the opera Lucia di Lammermoor and another song called "The Diva Dance."

The director of The Fifth Element, Luc Besson, really admired the opera singer Maria Callas. He wanted to use Callas's recording of Lucia for the movie, but the sound quality wasn't clear enough. So, Callas's agent, Michel Glotz, introduced him to Inva Mula, who then provided the amazing voice for the Diva.
