Story of Iorana
The story of Iorana takes place on beautiful Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui. It's full of secrets, love, and a search for justice.
A Family's Secret Past
The main story is about a young man named Cristián, played by Álvaro Morales. He is deeply in love with Vaitea, a girl from Rapa Nui, played by Alejandra Fosalba. They plan to get married. But their plans face many challenges because of Cristián's father, Fernando Balbontín, played by Francisco Reyes.
Fernando left Easter Island 15 years ago. He was accused of a crime he says he didn't do. Everyone on the island thought he was dead. His wife, Josefa Soublette (played by Claudia di Girolamo), even married his friend, Luciano Cox (played by Alfredo Castro). Luciano is a very ambitious man. He is secretly responsible for the crime Fernando was blamed for. This crime was a fire at the Rapa Nui Archaeological Museum. Many valuable old artifacts were lost in that fire.
Fernando's Return and Plan
News spreads that Fernando is returning to the island, and he is supposedly dying. This news shocks the small island community. Fernando has two main goals for coming back. First, he wants to get revenge on Josefa and Luciano. Second, he wants to win back the love of his children. His children are confused about whether to be loyal to their father or not.
Fernando uses a clever plan for his revenge. He pretends to be two different people. First, he is the "dying" Fernando Balbontín, who is kept in a special room. He is guarded by his "private doctor," Arístides Concha. This doctor is actually Fernando himself in disguise. Arístides tries to become friends with Josefa and Luciano. He acts as a mediator between them and the "dying" Fernando.
Fernando also creates another character: Captain Antoine Dumont. Antoine is a French captain and Fernando's "friend." He arrives on Easter Island as the person who will handle Fernando's money after he dies. Antoine also tries to make Josefa fall in love with him. This causes problems between Josefa and Luciano. Fernando's friend, Rodolfo "Pájaro" Tuki, helps him keep his true identity a secret.
Love and Discoveries on the Island
Cristián, Fernando's oldest son, has become a skilled diver on the island. He has adopted the Rapa Nui culture and calls himself "Iriti." He lives in a cave on Ovahe beach. He left his mother's house after she married Luciano.
Things get complicated for Cristián when he meets Paula Novoa, played by Carolina Fadic. Paula is a determined journalist from mainland Chile. She is searching for a secret: submerged Moai statues under the sea. Cristián starts a romantic relationship with Paula. This makes him forget his promise to Vaitea. This also causes a problem between Cristián and his brother, Rafael, who also likes Paula.
Meanwhile, the island's elder, Nua Eva, played by Mireya Véliz, tries to protect the secret of the Moai. She asks young Rapanui people, Tiare (Blanca Lewin) and Siu (Juan Falcón), for help. They try to stop Paula and her journalist friends from finding the Moai. As Cristián leaves Vaitea for Paula, Siu begins to show interest in Vaitea. Tiare tries to avoid the romantic attention of Álan, one of Paula's friends.
Other Island Lives
The show also features other interesting people on the island. Dr. Andrés Maturana is the island's young doctor. He feels overshadowed by Dr. Concha and wants to find out his secrets. Isabel Tepu is Gregorio's secretary and is known for not wearing shoes. Ingrid Astudillo is the island's teacher who becomes very interested in Captain Dumont.
