Irena Kwiatkowska (born September 17, 1912 – died March 3, 2011) was a very popular Polish actress. She was famous in Poland for her many roles in cabaret shows and for her funny monologues. She also appeared in many movies, mostly comedies, and on television.

Life and Career
Early Life and War Years
Irena Kwiatkowska finished her acting studies at the National Theatrical Arts Institute in 1935. Before World War II started, she performed in several theaters. These included the Teatr Powszechny in Warsaw, Teatr Nowy in Poznań, Teatr Polski in Katowice, and a theater in Vilnius.
During World War II, Irena was brave and active. She was part of the Home Army, which was a secret resistance movement in Poland. She also took part in the Warsaw Uprising, a major fight against the German occupation.
After the War: Cabaret and TV
After the war, Irena Kwiatkowska started performing again. Her first show was in a cabaret called Siedem Kotów (Seven Cats) in Kraków. A famous Polish poet, Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński, wrote many special roles just for her. He even created a well-known character named Hermenegilda Kociubińska with Irena in mind.
In 1948, she moved back to Warsaw. There, she performed in famous cabarets like Teatr Syrena, Dudek, and Szpak. She was also a very important cast member in the popular TV show Kabaret Starszych Panów (Cabaret of Elderly Gentlemen).
Famous TV Roles
Irena Kwiatkowska had other memorable roles on television. She starred in the popular series Wojna Domowa ("Civil War," 1965–66). She was also a big part of Czterdziestolatek ("Being Forty," 1974–77).
In the Czterdziestolatek series, she played a character called "Kobieta Pracująca" ("Working Woman"). This character was very special because she always had different, often funny or unusual, jobs. People loved this role so much that her character's name became linked with Irena Kwiatkowska herself. She played this role again in the show's sequel, Czterdziestolatek 20 lat później (1993).
Movies and Radio
Irena also appeared in many movies. Most of them were comedies or musicals. Even in her later years, she made memorable guest appearances. She also often did voice acting for radio shows, bringing many characters to life with her voice.
Awards and Later Years
Throughout her long career, Irena Kwiatkowska received many awards. In 1993, she won the Wielki Splendor Polish Radio Theatre Award. In 2002, she received the Superwiktor, a special award for her amazing achievements in television throughout her life.
Her 90th birthday in 2002 was a big celebration. Many artists performed on stage during a special TV show to honor her. She continued to perform at the Teatr Polski in Warsaw, including in a play based on Gałczyński's Zielona Gęś. Her last performance was in a play called Niarnia in 2009. Irena Kwiatkowska passed away on March 3, 2011, in Skolimów.
