Iris Hauser (born in 1956) is a Canadian artist and painter. She is well-known for telling stories and using symbols in her portrait paintings. She mainly uses oil paints for her artwork. Today, she lives in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Early Life and Art Education
Iris Hauser was born in 1956 in Cranbrook, British Columbia. She began her art studies in Victoria from 1973 to 1974. After that, she attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. She graduated from there in 1975.
Hauser continued her studies at the University of Saskatchewan from 1977 to 1979. She then spent a year studying art on her own in Kassel, Germany, from 1980 to 1981.
Her Art Career
Iris Hauser has taught art at the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon. She also taught in the Certificate of Art and Design program at the University of Saskatchewan. She was on the board of CARFAC Saskatchewan. This group helps Canadian artists. She also helped choose artists for the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils.
Hauser's art can be found in several important collections. These include the Mendel Art Gallery and the Kenderdine Art Gallery. Her work is also held by the Saskatchewan Arts Board. The Canada Council Art Bank in Ottawa also has her art. You can find her paintings in the Stall Gallery in Saskatoon. The Mann Gallery in Prince Albert and The Art Gallery of Regina also own her pieces. Her art has even been used on many Canadian book covers.
About Her Artwork
Iris Hauser showed an early interest in fine art. She often talks about a very clear dream she had as a young child. She tried right away to draw it with crayons. In her art, she uses many symbols and well-known images. She mostly works with oil paints.
Hauser often uses the same people as models for many of her paintings. One of her art series is called Dancing with Hell Hounds. In this series, she gently shows her brother's journey of healing through difficult times.
