Irma Pany, born on July 15, 1988, is a talented singer and songwriter from Cameroon. She is known by her stage name, Irma. She lives in France and creates her own music.

Early Life and Education

Irma was born in Douala, Cameroon. Her parents both worked in science; her father was a biologist and her mother was a pharmacist.

When she was a child, Irma loved to sing and often performed at church services. At 15, she moved to Paris, France, to continue her studies in high school.

In 2008, Irma started studying at ESCP Europe, a well-known business school in France. She finished her Master's degree in Management in 2012.

Irma started sharing her music online in 2007. She posted her first videos on YouTube. These videos included her own songs, like "Letter to the Lord" and a piano piece called "Somehow." She also sang cover versions of popular songs by other artists. Some of these covers included "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5 and "New Soul" by Yael Naim.

She made many home-made videos where she sang acoustic covers. She often worked with other musicians from France and other countries. For example, she sang "Hey Ya!" with Tété and "Rolling in the Deep" with Matthieu Chédid. She even performed "I Want You Back" with will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas.

First Album and Success

In 2008, Irma met Michael Goldman, who had started a music label called My Major Company. Irma signed a record deal with them. In February 2011, she released her first album, Letter to the Lord, in France. The album became very popular, reaching the top ten charts and selling enough copies to be certified platinum within a year. Her first song from the album, "I Know," was also a big hit, reaching number two in France.

In 2011, Irma went on a music tour across Europe. Later that year, she signed another record deal with Universal Republic Records to release her album in the United States.

Awards and Recognition

In 2012, Irma was featured in a Google Chrome advertisement in Europe. The ad showed how she became famous after posting her videos on YouTube. That same year, she was nominated for the "Best French Act" at the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards. In 2013, she re-released her song "I Know" as a duet with German singer Mic Donet for the German music market.

Irma's music video for her song Save Me won an award in 2014. It received the "Starz People’s Choice Award" for Music Video at the 37th Denver Film Festival.
