Irvington is located in Irvington Township, which is part of Kossuth County. In 2020, only 36 people lived there.
A Look Back: Irvington's History
The original settlement of Irvington, sometimes called "Old" Irvington, was started in 1856. Later, in 1881, something big happened. The Northwestern Railway was building its tracks through the area. Because of this, the town decided to move! A "New" Irvington was then planned out. The community got its name from a famous author named Washington Irving.
Irvington's population changed over the years. In 1902, there were 33 people living there. By 1925, the population had grown to 95 people.

Irvington is found in the southern part of Kossuth County. It's specifically in the southwest corner of Irvington Township. The community sits on a low hill, right next to the East Fork of the Des Moines River. It is about 5 miles (8 kilometers) south-southeast of Algona. Algona is the main town and county seat for Kossuth County.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the area of Irvington is about 1.01 square miles (2.62 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.
