Isaiah Canaan, who is 6 feet tall, grew up in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was a star player at Biloxi High School, leading his team to a state championship. After high school, he joined the Murray State team.

Starting Strong at Murray State

As a freshman in the 2009–10 season, Isaiah made a big impact. He scored about 10.4 points per game and was great at shooting three-pointers. He was named the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Freshman of the Year. His team, the Racers, won their league and the OVC tournament. Isaiah was even named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP).

The Racers then played in the NCAA tournament. They surprised many by beating Vanderbilt before losing a close game to Butler.

Continued Success in College

In his second year, Isaiah's scoring improved to 11.7 points per game. He was chosen for the First-Team All-OVC. The Racers won their second straight OVC regular-season championship.

His junior year was a huge success for both Isaiah and the team. Murray State started the season with an amazing 23 wins in a row! Isaiah was named MVP of the Great Alaska Shootout tournament, scoring 36 points in the final game. He was the team's top scorer and was recognized as one of the best college players in the country.

Isaiah was named the OVC Player of the Year twice, in 2012 and 2013. He was also a three-time First-Team All-OVC player. His jersey number 3 was retired by Murray State in 2018, which is a great honor.

Professional Basketball Career

Joining the Houston Rockets (2013–2015)

In 2013, Isaiah Canaan was picked by the Houston Rockets in the 2013 NBA draft. He signed his first professional contract with them. During his time with the Rockets, he also played for their minor league team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, in the NBA Development League.

In November 2014, Isaiah scored a career-high 24 points in a game against the Sacramento Kings. He later had an ankle injury that made him miss some games.

Playing for the Philadelphia 76ers (2015–2016)

In February 2015, Isaiah was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. He quickly became their starting point guard. In March 2015, he had an amazing game, scoring a career-high 31 points and making eight three-pointers.

During the 2015–16 season, Isaiah made 158 three-pointers, which was one of the best single-season records for the 76ers. Unfortunately, his season ended early in April 2016 due to a shoulder injury.

Time with the Chicago Bulls (2016–2017)

In July 2016, Isaiah signed with the Chicago Bulls. He played in 39 games during the 2016–17 season. He also made his first appearance in the NBA playoffs with the Bulls.

Brief Returns and New Teams (2017–2019)

After leaving the Bulls, Isaiah had a short return to the Houston Rockets in 2017. He also played for the Northern Arizona Suns in the NBA G League.

In December 2017, he joined the Phoenix Suns. He had a great start, scoring 15 points in his first game and helping the team win. He continued to play well, but in January 2018, he fractured his left ankle. He later re-signed with the Suns in August 2018 and even started some games.

In early 2019, Isaiah signed short contracts with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Stockton Kings (2019–2020)

In December 2019, Isaiah joined the Stockton Kings in the NBA G League. He continued to show his scoring ability, including a 32-point game in January 2020.

Playing Overseas in Europe (2020–Present)

In July 2020, Isaiah moved to Europe and signed with UNICS Kazan in Russia. He played well for them in the VTB United League and the EuroCup. He stayed with UNICS until early 2022.

After leaving Russia, he played for Galatasaray Nef in Turkey for a short time in 2022.

In July 2022, Isaiah signed a two-year deal with Olympiacos in Greece. He helped Olympiacos win the Greek League championship in 2023. He also won the Greek Cup twice (2023, 2024) and the Greek Super Cup twice (2022, 2023). In 2023, he was named the MVP of the Greek All-Star Game.

As of 2024, Isaiah Canaan plays for Crvena zvezda in Serbia. He helped them win the Serbian Cup in 2025.
