Ishan Kishan, born on July 18, 1998, is a talented Indian cricketer. He plays for the Indian national cricket team as a wicket-keeper and a batsman. He first played for India in March 2021 against England. In Indian cricket, he represents Jharkhand. For the Indian Premier League (IPL), he plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In December 2022, Ishan made history! He scored an amazing 210 runs in a One Day International (ODI) match against Bangladesh. This made him the youngest cricketer to score a double century in an ODI. He was also the first player to turn his very first ODI century into a double century.
Ishan was the captain of India's team for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was also part of the Indian team that won the 2023 Asia Cup.

Early Life and Cricket Start
Ishan Kishan was born in Patna, Bihar, on July 18, 1998. His father, Pranav Kumar Pandey, works as a builder. Ishan started playing cricket for the nearby state of Jharkhand. This happened because of some issues with player registration in Bihar.
Domestic Cricket Career
Ishan has played a lot of cricket within India. He has set some impressive records.
Setting Records in Ranji Trophy
On November 6, 2016, Ishan scored a huge 273 runs against Delhi in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy. This was a new record for a player from Jharkhand in that competition. He was also the top run-scorer for Jharkhand in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, scoring 484 runs in six matches.
Success in Other Tournaments
Ishan continued to shine in other tournaments. He was the top run-scorer for Jharkhand in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, with 405 runs. In October 2018, he scored a century in the final of the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy.
In February 2019, he scored an unbeaten century against Jammu and Kashmir in the 2018–19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the very next match, he scored another century, making it two in a row!
Recent Domestic Achievements
In February 2021, on the first day of the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Ishan scored 173 runs against Madhya Pradesh. This helped his team reach a record score of 422 runs.
In October 2024, Ishan Kishan became the captain of the Jharkhand cricket team for the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy season. He had led the team before, in the 2018-19 season. Ishan showed he was ready for this role by scoring a century in the Duleep Trophy.

Early IPL Years
In 2016, the Gujarat Lions team bought Ishan in the IPL auction. They kept him for the next year too. In 2018, the Mumbai Indians bought him in the 2018 auction. He had a great first season with them, scoring 275 runs.
Breakthrough with Mumbai Indians
The 2020 IPL season was a huge success for Ishan. He scored 516 runs, becoming the highest scorer for Mumbai Indians that year. He also won an award for hitting the most sixes! One of his most memorable innings was when he scored 99 runs in just 58 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Before the 2022 IPL, Mumbai Indians bought Ishan again for a large sum of money, making him one of the most expensive Indian players. He continued to play for Mumbai Indians in the 2023 and 2024 IPL seasons.
Joining Sunrisers Hyderabad
In November 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Ishan Kishan in the 2025 IPL auction. He scored his first Indian Premier League century in his very first match for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Rajasthan Royals in 2025.
Playing in England

Ishan Kishan also played cricket in England. He signed a short contract with Nottinghamshire to play two matches in June 2025. He made his debut against Yorkshire on June 22, 2025. In his first innings, he scored 87 runs quickly. He also caught a ball behind the stumps on his very first try for Nottinghamshire!

T20I and ODI Debuts
In February 2021, Ishan was chosen for India's Twenty20 International (T20I) team to play against England. He made his T20I debut on March 14, 2021, scoring 56 runs and winning the "player of the match" award.
In June 2021, he was also picked for India's One Day International (ODI) team for a tour of Sri Lanka. He made his ODI debut in July, scoring 59 runs. Later that year, he was part of India's team for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Record-Breaking Double Century
In October 2022, Ishan scored his highest ODI score at the time, with 93 runs against South Africa. Then, in December 2022, during India's tour of Bangladesh, he became the youngest player to score a double century in an ODI. He scored an incredible 210 runs from 131 balls! He reached 200 runs in just 126 balls, breaking Chris Gayle's record. He also became the first player to turn his first ODI century into a double century.
World Cup Participation
In September 2023, Ishan was chosen for India's team for the 50-over World Cup. He played in the first match against Australia. In the second game against Afghanistan, he scored 47 runs.
