Ishan Pranav Kumar Pandey Kishan (born 18 July 1998) is an Indian cricketer from Bihar. He made his international debut for the India cricket team in March 2021. In December 2015, he was named as the captain of India's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Kishan is a left-handed batsman and a wicket-keeper.


Ishan was born in Patna, Bihar. His father Pranav Kumar Pandey, is a builder by profession. Ishan's brother Raj Kishan, supported him in pursuing cricket as career. Due to registration issue between Bihar Cricket Association and the BCCI, Ishan started playing for neighboring state Jharkhand based on advice from a senior player and friend. As per Ishan's coach, his idols are former Indian team captain M.S. Dhoni and former Australian wicket-keeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist.


On 6 November 2016, Ishan Kishan scored 273 runs against Delhi in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy. This was the highest score by a player for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy. He was the leading run-scorer for Jharkhand in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, with 484 runs in six matches.

In January 2018, he was bought by the Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL auction. He was the leading run-scorer for Jharkhand in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, with 405 runs in nine matches. In October 2018, he was named in India C's squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy, scoring a century in the tournament's final. In February 2019, in the 2018–19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored an unbeaten century against Jammu & Kashmir. In the next match, against Manipur, scored 113 not out, to record back-to-back centuries in the tournament.

In August 2019, he was named in the India Red team's squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy. In October 2019, he was named in India A's squad for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy.

He was the highest run-scorer for the Mumbai Indians in the 2020 IPL, with 516 runs from 14 matches and won the most sixes award of the season. On 20 February 2021, on the opening day of the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Kishan scored 173 runs against Madhya Pradesh. Jharkhand finished their innings on 422/9, the highest total by any team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He took seven catches behind the stumps, to record the most catches taken by a wicket-keeper in a List A match.

International career

In February 2021, Kishan was named in India's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their series against England. It was his maiden international call-up to the India cricket team. He made his T20I debut for India on 14 March 2021, against England, scoring 56 off 32 before getting out lbw to Adil Rashid. India went on to win the game by seven wickets with Kishan bring named as the man of the match.

In June 2021, he was named in India's One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) squads for their series against Sri Lanka. He made his ODI debut on 18 July 2021, for India against Sri Lanka, scoring 59 off 42 balls.
