Isola is a small town in Humphreys County, Mississippi, in the United States. It's located right by Lake Dawson. In 2020, about 638 people lived there. The town's name, "Isola," comes from the word "isolation." This is because when it was first settled, it felt very far away from other places.

Exploring Isola's Location

Isola is found in the northern part of Humphreys County. To its north is Sunflower County. A main road, U.S. Route 49W, runs along the east side of the town. This road can take you about 15 miles north to Indianola or about 8 miles southeast to Belzoni. Belzoni is the main town, or "county seat," of Humphreys County.

Isola covers an area of about 0.7 square miles (1.9 square kilometers), and all of it is land. The town is close to the southeast end of Lake Dawson. This lake is actually an old river channel. Lake Dawson connects to the Big Sunflower River through a waterway called Pawson Bayou. The Big Sunflower River then flows into the Yazoo River.
