The Istanbul Toy Museum (which in Turkish is İstanbul Oyuncak Müzesi) is a special place in Istanbul, Turkey. It's a museum all about toys! You can find it in the Göztepe area of the Kadıköy district.

About the Museum

This museum is a fantastic place where you can see toys from all over the world. It's not just for kids; adults love it too because it brings back memories.

How It Started

The Istanbul Toy Museum was created by a Turkish writer named Sunay Akın. He is famous for writing poems and stories. The museum first opened its doors on April 23, 2005. This date is very special in Turkey because it's a national holiday called National Sovereignty and Children's Day. It's a day dedicated to children!

What You Can See

The museum has a huge collection of toys. There are about 4,000 toys and tiny models from Turkey and other countries. Many of these toys are very old, some even nearly 200 years old! Imagine playing with a toy that's older than your great-grandparents!

One cool part of the museum is on the first floor. It looks like the old Eyüp Toy Shop. This was a very famous toy shop that closed down in the 1950s. It's like stepping back in time!

Awards and Recognition

In 2012, the Istanbul Toy Museum was recognized for being a great place. It was chosen as a finalist for the European Museum Academy Children's Museum Award. This shows how special and well-loved the museum is.

Visiting the Museum

If you want to visit, the museum is open most days. It's closed on Mondays. On weekdays, you can visit from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. On weekends, it stays open a bit later, from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM. You can find it at Ömerpaşa Caddesi, Dr. Zeki Zeren Sokak 17, Göztepe-Kadıköy, Istanbul.
