History of Ithaca, Nebraska
Ithaca was founded in 1866. It was named after Ithaca, New York, a city that was the original home of one of the first settlers. Interestingly, the name "Ithaca" also appears in ancient Greek stories. It is the name of the mythical island kingdom where the hero Odysseus is from, in Homer's famous epic poem, the Odyssey.

In 2010, there were 148 people living in Ithaca. These people lived in 57 different homes, and 40 of these were families. The village had about 643 people per square mile.
