Itzy (stylized as ITZY) is a popular South Korean girl group. It was created by JYP Entertainment. The group has five talented members: Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna.
Itzy officially started their music journey on February 12, 2019. They released their first single album called It'z Different. The group quickly became very successful. They won many "new artist of the year" awards. These included Rookie of the Year at the 34th Golden Disc Awards. They also won Best New Female Artist at the 2019 Melon Music Awards and the 2019 Mnet Asian Music Awards.

History
How Itzy Members Started
Before Itzy was formed, each member had their own path to becoming a K-pop idol.
- Chaeryeong tried out for another company first. She then joined JYP Entertainment through a TV show called K-pop Star 3. She trained for five years. She also competed in JYP's show Sixteen in 2015. This show created the group Twice. Chaeryeong did not make it into Twice.
- Ryujin was discovered at a GOT7 concert. She trained with JYP for four years before Itzy's debut. In 2018, Ryujin was on a TV show called Mix Nine. She was the top girl contestant.
- Yuna was found by JYP Entertainment in 2015. She trained for three years. In 2017, Yuna and Ryujin appeared in BTS’s “Love Yourself” Highlight Reel.
- Yeji auditioned for JYP Entertainment in 2015. She trained for three years. She was also on a TV show called The Fan.
- Lia first passed an audition for another company. But her parents did not agree, so she could not join. Later, Lia auditioned for JYP Entertainment. She trained for two years.
All members, except Lia, appeared on a TV show called Stray Kids in 2017. They performed as a project group against the boy group Stray Kids.
2019: First Songs and Big Success
On January 21, 2019, JYP Entertainment announced their new girl group, Itzy. It was their first new girl group since Twice in 2015. They released a video showing the five members.
On February 12, Itzy released their first single album, It'z Different. The main song was "Dalla Dalla". This song mixed different electronic music styles. Its lyrics were about being strong and confident. Fans loved it.
"Dalla Dalla" quickly became a huge hit. It was one of the biggest debuts for a new K-pop group on the Billboard charts. The song reached No. 2 on the World Digital Song Sales chart. It sold 2,000 downloads in the U.S. in its first week. This made it the best-selling K-pop song in America that week.
The music video for "Dalla Dalla" broke records. It got over 17.1 million views in just 24 hours. This was the most views for a K-pop debut music video at the time. On February 21, Itzy won their first music show award on M Countdown. They became the fastest girl group to win a music show. "Dalla Dalla" won 9 music show awards in total. The music video also reached 100 million views on YouTube very quickly.
Itzy released their first mini-album, It'z Icy, on July 29, 2019. The main song was "Icy". This album was also very successful. It reached number 3 on the Gaon Album Chart in South Korea. "Icy" won 12 music show awards.
In September, JYP announced Itzy's first showcase tour. It was called Itzy Premiere Showcase Tour "Itzy? Itzy!". The tour started in Jakarta in November. They visited different cities in Asia and then went to the United States in January 2020.
By November 2019, "Dalla Dalla" had been streamed over 100 million times. This earned it a "platinum" certification. It was the first debut song by a K-pop group to get this award. At the end of 2019, Itzy won many "Best New Female Artist" awards.
2020: U.S. Tour and More Music
Itzy started 2020 by continuing their showcase tour in the United States. They began in Los Angeles on January 17.
On March 9, Itzy released their second mini-album, It'z Me. The main song was "Wannabe". This album explored electronic dance music sounds. It kept Itzy's message of freedom and being yourself. It'z Me became Itzy's first number one album in South Korea. It also reached number 5 on Billboard's World Albums chart. Itzy won 8 music show awards for "Wannabe".
On August 17, Itzy released their third mini-album, Not Shy. The main song was also called "Not Shy". This album still had Itzy's "teen crush" sound. But the lyrics started to talk about love, moving from themes of independence. Not Shy also reached number one on the Gaon Album Chart. It sold over 219,048 copies. "Not Shy" won 5 music show awards.
2021: Guess Who
On March 20, 2021, Itzy released a special song for their fans, called "Trust Me (Midzy)". This was part of their first online live show.
On April 30, Itzy released their fourth mini-album, Guess Who. The main song was "In the Morning". On May 11, Guess Who entered the Billboard 200 chart at number 148. This was Itzy's first time on this major U.S. album chart. An English version of "In the Morning" was released on May 14.
