He was a talented running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) and the World League of American Football (WLAF). Brown played for the Phoenix Cardinals in the NFL and the San Antonio Riders in the WLAF. Fun fact: he is the uncle of famous NFL running back Adrian Peterson.

Ivory Lee Brown's College Journey

Ivory Lee Brown was born in Palestine, Texas. He was a very sought-after running back during his time at Palestine High School. In 1986, his senior year, he ran for an amazing 1,800 yards! This made him the second-best recruit in Texas.

Brown first planned to attend Texas A&M University. However, he faced some challenges with his college entrance exams (SATs). Because of this, he decided to go to Tyler Junior College instead.

After junior college, Brown was recruited by coach Archie Cooley to play for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). Coach Cooley was known for coaching Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice before coming to UAPB. In 1989, Brown's first year with the UAPB Golden Lions, he was the top rusher in the NAIA (a college sports association) with 1,465 yards. He averaged an impressive 8.3 yards every time he carried the ball!

Ivory Lee Brown's Professional Career

After his successful college career, Ivory Lee Brown moved on to play professional football.

Playing in the NFL

The Phoenix Cardinals picked Ivory Lee Brown in the seventh round of the 1991 NFL draft. He was the 171st player chosen overall. In his first year, he was part of the team's practice squad and did not play in any official games.

Playing in the WLAF

In 1992, Ivory Lee Brown joined the San Antonio Riders in the new World League of American Football (WLAF). He quickly became a star player for the Riders. Brown led the entire league in rushing yards, gaining 767 yards that season. His great performance helped the Riders achieve a good record of 7 wins and 3 losses. He was also named to the first-team All-World League. This success gave him another chance to play in the NFL.

Returning to the NFL

After his impressive season in the WLAF, Brown returned to the Phoenix Cardinals for the 1992 NFL season. He had a chance to become a starting player because another running back, Johnny Johnson, was not playing at the start of the season. Brown played in seven games and started five of them. However, he did not make the Cardinals' team roster in 1993 and later retired from professional football.
