A Look Back: Ixonia's History

The area that is now Ixonia was once part of a bigger town called Watertown. On February 12, 1841, a new town named Union was created from Watertown.

How Ixonia Got Its Name

Five years later, in 1846, the town of Union was split into two new towns. One of these became known as Concord. For the second new town, the people couldn't agree on a name! So, they decided to pick letters randomly until they could form a name. That's how "Ixonia" was chosen on January 21, 1846. It's still the only town with this unique name in the entire United States!
