Íñigo Pírfano is a Spanish conductor. He was born in Bilbao, Spain, in 1973. He is known for leading orchestras and for his work as a composer and writer.

Early Life and Education

Íñigo Pírfano studied music, including piano and harmony. At the same time, he earned a degree in philosophy from the Complutense University of Madrid in Madrid.

In September 1997, he went to the Mozarteum University of Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria. There, he studied how to conduct orchestras, choirs, and operas. He also learned piano. He earned a special diploma in conducting from the Mozarteum, receiving a high honor called an Auszeichnung.

In June 1997, Íñigo Pírfano conducted a special concert in Salzburg. He performed music by famous composers like Stravinsky and Manuel de Falla. He also helped new composers by playing their music for the first time. Later, he attended special classes with famous conductors like Sir Colin Davis and Kurt Masur in Germany.

Career as a Conductor

Íñigo Pírfano has conducted many orchestras and music groups. He has worked in Austria, Germany, Poland, and Spain. Some of the cities he has conducted in include Madrid, San Sebastián, Valencia, and Bilbao.

He has led groups such as the National Basque Orchestra and the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra. He also started his own group, the Orquesta Académica de Madrid. In April 2002, he conducted his first opera. It was Retablo de Maese Pedro by Manuel de Falla. This performance was part of a tribute to Miguel de Cervantes' famous character, Don Quixote.

Íñigo Pírfano as a Composer

Besides conducting, Íñigo Pírfano also writes music. In 1997, he created the music for the film El Sudor de los Ruiseñores. This music earned him a nomination for Best Original Musical Score in 1998.

In 2000, he presented his work Quatre Alcools in Madrid. This piece was for a singer and an orchestra. In 2012, he was asked to compose the Fandango de Don Quixote. This became the official song for the 400th anniversary of the famous book Don Quixote.

Íñigo Pírfano has also written books. His first book, Ebrietas. El poder de la belleza, was published in May 2012.

In 2013, he published his second book, Inteligencia Musical.

Awards and Recognition

In 2012, Íñigo Pírfano received the Young Leadership Award. This award was given by the Spanish Fundación Rafael del Pino.
