Jéssica Andrade, born on September 25, 1991, is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist. She competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), a major sports league, in the strawweight and flyweight divisions. She used to be the UFC Women's Strawweight Champion. Jéssica is ranked among the top fighters in her weight classes.

Early Life and Training

Jéssica Andrade was born in Umuarama, Brazil. Her parents were farmers. Jéssica and her older brother, Fernando, helped on the family farm when they were kids. Later, the farm became public land, so children could no longer work there.

When she was 14, Jéssica started working at a fishing pond. She also delivered medicine for a drug store. Growing up, Jéssica loved playing soccer and futsal, which is like indoor soccer. She was very good and hoped to become a professional soccer player. She even got an offer to play for a team in São Paulo, but her parents did not let her move.

While in school, Jéssica began training in Judo. Soon after, in 2011, she started learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The "Bate Estaca" Nickname

Jéssica's teammates gave her the nickname Bate Estaca. This means "piledriver" in Brazil. It refers to a move where a fighter lifts an opponent and slams them headfirst onto the mat. This move is against the rules in most combat sports.

The nickname came from one of her first amateur jiu-jitsu competitions. Jéssica was caught in an armlock during a fight. She panicked and used the illegal piledriver move on her opponent. She was immediately disqualified from the match.
