Johnny Le'Mon Thomas (born December 15, 1971) is a former American football player. He was a wide receiver, which means he caught passes from the quarterback. He also played as a return specialist, running back kicks and punts. Thomas played four seasons with the St. Louis Rams in the National Football League (NFL). He was chosen by the Rams in the 1995 NFL Draft. Before playing professionally, he played college football at San Bernardino Valley College and Arizona State University.
Early Life and College Football
Johnny Le'Mon Thomas was born on December 15, 1971, in San Bernardino, California. He went to San Bernardino High School in his hometown.
After high school, Thomas started his college football career at San Bernardino Valley College. He played there from 1991 to 1992. Later, he moved to Arizona State University. In 1993, playing for the Arizona State Sun Devils, he caught 34 passes for 574 yards. He also scored three touchdowns by catching the ball. He ran the ball six times for 105 yards and scored one rushing touchdown.
Playing in the NFL
The St. Louis Rams picked Johnny Thomas in the seventh round of the 1995 NFL draft. He was the 240th player chosen overall. He officially joined the team on June 16, 1995.
St. Louis Rams (1995–1998)
In his first year, 1995, Thomas played in 15 games for the Rams. He caught five passes for 42 yards. He also returned 32 kicks, gaining 752 yards. In 1996, he played in all 16 games. He had seven catches for 46 yards and returned 30 kicks for 643 yards.
Thomas played in only four games during the 1997 season. He caught two passes for 25 yards and returned five kicks for 97 yards. After the season, he became a free agent but signed again with the Rams in February 1998. In his last season with the Rams in 1998, he played in all 16 games. He caught 20 passes for 287 yards and returned four kicks for 79 yards.
Other Teams
After leaving the Rams, Thomas briefly signed with the Atlanta Falcons in August 1999. However, he was released later that month. In May 2000, he signed with the Denver Broncos, but he was released by them in June 2000.
