He finished his college career as one of the top players in school history. He was third in all-purpose yards and first in kickoff return yards. His kickoff return record was still standing in 2019!
Becoming a Coach
After college, Shephard didn't start coaching right away. He worked for the NCAA, which manages college sports. But he still loved football and coached at his old high school, Northrop High School, in 2005. He coached the wide receivers there.
- In 2006, he moved to Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis. He coached both wide receivers and defensive backs.
- He also helped out at his old college, DePauw University. He was a volunteer assistant for their track and field team.
Coaching at Western Kentucky
After working for a few years at a drug-free sports center, Shephard decided to go back to coaching full-time. He took a volunteer coaching job at Western Kentucky University in 2011. He worked with coach Willie Taggart.
- When Coach Taggart left, Shephard stayed at Western Kentucky. He worked under new coach Bobby Petrino. His job was to help the wide receivers. He helped the team change from running the ball a lot to having a more balanced offense.
- In 2014, he became the official wide receivers coach. This was under new head coach Jeff Brohm.
- He also became the special teams coach for the 2015 season. This meant he helped with plays like kickoffs and punts.
Moving to Washington State

Coaching at Purdue
When Jeff Brohm, his former coach, became the head coach at Purdue University, Shephard joined him. In 2017, he became the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator for Purdue. This meant he helped plan the team's passing plays. In 2018, he was promoted to co-offensive coordinator.
