John William "Jack" Carter (born July 3, 1947) is an American businessman, politician, and environmentalist. He is the oldest child of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

Jack Carter's Early Life and Education
Jack Carter was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. He grew up in Plains, Georgia. As a kid, he worked at his father's peanut farm warehouse. He earned 10 cents an hour!
Carter started college in 1965. He went to several schools, including Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University. After serving in the military, he returned to Georgia Tech. There, he earned a degree in nuclear physics. This field studies the tiny parts that make up atoms.
After college, Carter went to law school. He attended the University of Georgia School of Law. In 1975, he earned his law degree, called a Juris Doctor.
Military Service and Early Career
In April 1968, Carter joined the United States Navy. He served during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he continued his education.
In 1981, Carter moved to Chicago. He worked for the Chicago Board of Trade. This is a place where people buy and sell goods like crops. He also worked for Citibank, a large bank.

In 2002, Jack Carter moved to Nevada. He decided to run for a political office.
2006 Senate Campaign in Nevada
In 2006, Carter ran for the United States Senate in Nevada. He won the Democratic nomination on August 15, 2006. This meant he was chosen to represent the Democratic Party in the election.
However, he lost the election to the Republican candidate, John Ensign.
Carter focused on important issues during his campaign. He was against the Iraq War. He also cared a lot about the healthcare system. He believed it needed to do a better job of helping military veterans.
Jack Carter's Personal Life
In 1971, Jack Carter married Judy Langford. Her father was a state senator in Georgia. Jack and Judy had two children: a son named Jason and a daughter named Sarah. They divorced in 1989.
In 1992, Carter married Elizabeth Sawyer Brasfield. He became a stepfather to her two children from a previous marriage. Her son, John Chuldenko, is a filmmaker. Her daughter, Sarah Chuldenko, is an artist and book illustrator.
