John William "Jack" Carter (born July 3, 1947) is an American businessman, politician, and environmentalist. He is the oldest child of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

Early Life and Education
Jack Carter was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. He grew up in Plains, Georgia. As a child, he worked at his father's peanut farm warehouse during the winters.
He started college in 1965, attending several universities. After serving in the military, he returned to Georgia Institute of Technology. There, he earned a degree in nuclear physics. Later, he studied law at the University of Georgia School of Law, completing his degree in 1975.
Military Service
Carter joined the United States Navy in April 1968. He served during the Vietnam War on a ship called the USS Grapple. He left the Navy in late 1970.
Early Career
In 1981, Carter moved to Chicago. He worked for the Chicago Board of Trade, which is a major financial exchange. He also worked for Citibank, a large bank.
Political Career
Running for Senate in 2006
Carter moved to Nevada in 2002. He decided to run for the United States Senate in 2006. On August 15, 2006, he won the Democratic nomination. This meant he became the official candidate for the Democratic Party.
However, he lost the election to the Republican candidate, John Ensign.
Carter's main campaign issues included his disagreement with the Iraq War. He also spoke about his concerns regarding the healthcare system. He believed it was not doing enough to help military veterans.
Personal Life
In 1971, Jack Carter married Judy Langford. She was the daughter of a former state senator from Georgia. They had two children: a son named Jason and a daughter named Sarah. They divorced in 1989.
In 1992, Carter married Elizabeth Sawyer Brasfield. He became a stepfather to her two children from a previous marriage. Her son, John Chuldenko, is a filmmaker. Her daughter, Sarah Chuldenko, is an artist who illustrates books and paints.
