Jackie Dinkins (born January 22, 1950 – died March 7, 1983) was an American professional basketball player. He played as a small forward. Jackie was known for his time with the Chicago Bulls in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He also played basketball in Europe.
Jackie's Basketball Journey
Jackie Dinkins was born in Gadsden, South Carolina. He was a talented player from Voorhees College. The Chicago Bulls picked him in the ninth round of the 1971 NBA draft. He was the 150th player chosen overall.
Playing in the NBA
Jackie played one season in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls. This was during the 1971–72 basketball season. He played in eighteen games for the team. On average, he scored 2.5 points per game. He also grabbed 1.1 rebounds and made 0.4 assists in each game.
Success in Europe
After his time in the NBA, Jackie moved to Europe. He played basketball in the Netherlands and Belgium. From 1973 to 1975, he played for a team called RZ in the Dutch Eredivisie. This team was also known as Transol RZ.
Jackie helped RZ become a very popular team in Rotterdam. He led them to win the 1973–74 Eredivisie championship. This was the first championship win in the club's history! The next season, RZ played in a big European competition. Jackie was the top scorer in two games against Crystal Palace.
In 1978, Jackie Dinkins joined Standard Liège. This team played in the Belgian League.
A Sad Farewell
Jackie Dinkins passed away on March 7, 1983, in Liège, Belgium. He was only 33 years old. He was in the process of becoming a Belgian citizen when he died.
