Jaikishan Kakubhai Shroff (born on February 1, 1957), famously known as Jackie Shroff, is a well-known Indian actor and former model. He mostly works in the Hindi film industry in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Over more than forty years, he has acted in over 250 films in 13 different languages! He has won many awards, including four Filmfare Awards. Jackie Shroff became one of the top actors in Indian cinema during the 1980s and 1990s.
He first appeared in a small role in Swami Dada (1982). Then, he got his first main role in Subhash Ghai's big hit action movie Hero (1983). This movie made him famous overnight. After that, he starred in many successful films almost every year in the 1980s and 90s. He even won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his role in Parinda. Some of his other popular movies include Tridev (1989), Khalnayak (1993), Rangeela (1995), and Border (1997).
In the 2000s, Jackie Shroff started taking on more supporting roles or playing characters who were not the main hero. Some of these films include Mission Kashmir (2000), Devdas (2002), Dhoom 3 (2013), and Happy New Year (2014). He has also acted in films in other languages, like Punjabi, Konkani, Tamil, and Telugu.
Besides acting, Jackie Shroff is also an environmentalist. He is married to Ayesha Dutt, who is a model and producer. They have two children: their son, Tiger Shroff, is also an actor, and their daughter, Krishna Shroff, is an entrepreneur.

Early Life and First Steps
Jackie Shroff was born Jaikishan Kakubhai Shroff on February 1, 1957, in Bombay (now Mumbai), India. His father, Kakubhai Haribhai Shroff, was from Gujarat. His mother's family came from a different country and later moved to Mumbai.
Jackie Shroff stopped going to college after the 11th grade because his family didn't have much money. He grew up in a place in Mumbai called Teen Batti. His father was an astrologer.
When he was young, he started modeling for advertisements, like for Savage perfumes. It was a classmate who first called him "Jackie." Later, filmmaker Subhash Ghai kept this name when he launched Jackie in the movie Hero. Jackie Shroff still often visits his childhood home in Teen Batti.
Career Journey
Starting Out
After leaving school, Jackie Shroff tried different jobs. He wanted to be a chef at Taj Hotels and a flight attendant at Air India, but he couldn't get these jobs because he didn't have enough qualifications. Then, he started working as a travel agent.
One day, someone from an advertising agency saw him at a bus stop. They asked him if he wanted to try modeling. The next day, Jackie went for a photo shoot during his lunch break. This photo shoot for a suit shirt helped him start his modeling career. An acting school teacher, Aasha K Chandra, then asked him to join her classes. He met Dev Anand's son, Suneil Anand, there. Suneil introduced Jackie to his father, Dev Anand, who gave Jackie his first acting role.
Film Roles
In 1982, Jackie Shroff made his acting debut in Dev Anand's film Swami Dada. He had a small, uncredited role in the movie.
In 1983, director Subhash Ghai chose Jackie Shroff for the main role in his action-romance film Hero. He starred alongside Meenakshi Sheshadri. The movie was a huge success and made both Jackie and Meenakshi famous very quickly. Jackie continued to work in Subhash Ghai's films, no matter what role was offered.
After Hero, Jackie Shroff acted in many other successful films like Andar Baahar (1984) and Karma (1986), which was the highest-grossing film that year. In 1989, he had big hits with Ram Lakhan, Tridev, and Parinda. His acting in Parinda was so good that he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
In the 1990s, he continued to star in popular films. These included Saudagar (1991), Khalnayak (1993), 1942: A Love Story (1994), Rangeela (1995), and Border (1997). During this time, he was nominated for many Filmfare Awards and won for 1942: A Love Story and Rangeela.
In the 2000s, Jackie Shroff took on more supporting roles. Some of his notable films from this period include Mission Kashmir (2000), Devdas (2002), and Hulchul (2004). He also acted in children's films like Bhoot Ukle (2006). He has also appeared in Marathi films and made his debut in Konkani films like Soul Curry (2017), for which he won the Goa State Award for Best Actor. He continues to act in many films today.
Television Appearances
Jackie Shroff has also hosted several television shows. He hosted Lehrein, Chirtrahar, and Missing. Missing was a popular show about people who disappeared, and Jackie's storytelling made it very engaging. He was also a judge on the magic show India's Magic Star in 2010. In 2014, he appeared with his son Tiger Shroff on Comedy Nights with Kapil. In 2019, Jackie Shroff started acting in web series with Criminal Justice.

Personal Life and Interests
Jackie Shroff married his longtime girlfriend Ayesha Dutt on June 5, 1987, which was also her birthday. Ayesha is a model and film producer. Together, they run a media company called Jackie Shroff Entertainment Limited. They have two children: their son, Tiger Shroff, born in 1990, is a famous actor, and their daughter, Krishna Shroff, born in 1993, is an entrepreneur and filmmaker.
Helping Others and the Environment
Jackie Shroff is very passionate about the environment. He owns an organic farm where he grows plants, trees, and herbs without harmful chemicals. He is also a brand ambassador for Thalassemia India, which helps people with a blood disorder. Over the years, he has supported many good causes, like raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and working to stop female foeticide (ending a pregnancy because the baby is a girl). He has also helped many children who are not as lucky by funding their medical treatment and education. In 2021, he even donated an ambulance to an animal shelter in memory of his pet dog, Rocky.
