Exploring Jackman's Geography
Jackman covers an area of about 42 square miles (109 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part made up of water, like lakes and rivers.
Jackman's History
Jackman got its name from Captain James Jackman. In the 1830s, he was hired by the State of Maine to build a road. This road connected the United States with Canada.
A Special Day: The 2024 Solar Eclipse
On April 8, 2024, Jackman was in the perfect spot to see a total eclipse of the sun. Many places in the United States were expecting cloudy skies. However, Jackman was predicted to have clear weather.
Because of this, over 10,000 visitors came to Jackman. This town usually has fewer than a thousand residents. Officials said it was likely the biggest crowd Jackman had ever seen!

Jackman has a climate with big changes between seasons. Summers are warm but not super hot. Winters are cold, sometimes very cold. This type of climate is called a "humid continental" climate.

Education in Jackman
Students in Jackman attend Forest Hills Consolidated School. This school teaches students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. Jackman is part of Maine Area School District 12.
Jackman's Railroad History
In 1889, Jackman became connected to the larger North American rail network. This happened when the Canadian Pacific Railway finished its "International of Maine Division" line.
A company called Jackman Lumber Company built a special logging railroad in 1915. It was called the Bald Mountain Railroad. This railroad helped bring logs to the Jackman sawmill until 1926. Passenger train service through Jackman stopped in 1981, started again in 1985, and then ended for good in 1994.
