Jacques Bergerac (born May 26, 1927 – died June 15, 2014) was a French actor who later became a successful businessman. He was known for his roles in movies and TV shows during the 1950s and 1960s.

Early Life and Acting Career

Jacques Bergerac was born in 1927 in Biarritz, a beautiful town in France. His parents were Alice and Charles Bergerac.

While studying law, Jacques met the famous American actress Ginger Rogers when she was on vacation in France. She helped him get a screen test at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. This led to his first movie role alongside her in Twist of Fate (1954). The film was also known as Beautiful Stranger.

Notable Film Roles

After his first movie, Jacques Bergerac appeared in many other films. He played Armand Duval in a TV show called Camille. He also acted as the Comte de Provence in the French film Marie Antoinette Queen of France.

In 1956, he starred in Strange Intruder with Ida Lupino. The next year, he was in Les Girls. He also appeared in the classic musical Gigi (1958). Other films included Thunder in the Sun (1959) and the horror film The Hypnotic Eye (1960). In 1957, he won a Golden Globe Award for being a promising new actor from another country.

Television Appearances

Jacques Bergerac also appeared in many popular TV shows. He was seen in The Millionaire and Batman. He also had roles in 77 Sunset Strip and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Other shows included The Lucy Show, Get Smart, and The Dick Van Dyke Show. His last TV appearance was in 1969 on The Doris Day Show.

Life After Acting

After his acting career, Jacques Bergerac moved into the business world. He became the head of the Paris office for Revlon, a well-known cosmetics company. He also led the Perfumes Balmain company. Interestingly, his younger brother, Michel Bergerac, later became the CEO of Revlon.

From 1980 to 1981, Jacques Bergerac also managed the rugby club Biarritz Olympique.

Family Life

Jacques Bergerac married actress Ginger Rogers in February 1953. They later divorced in July 1957. In June 1959, he married another actress, Dorothy Malone, in Hong Kong. They had two daughters together, Mimi and Diane. Their marriage ended in December 1964.

Jacques Bergerac passed away on June 15, 2014, at his home in Anglet, France.
