Jean Delannoy (born January 12, 1908 – died June 18, 2008) was a famous French person. He worked as an actor, a film editor, a writer for movies (screenwriter), and a movie director.

About Jean Delannoy

Jean Delannoy was born near Paris, France. However, his family came from a region called Haute-Normandie in northern France. He was a Protestant, which is a type of Christian. His family were descendants of Huguenots. These were French Protestants who had to leave France a long time ago during the French Wars of Religion. Some of his family first moved to Wallonia (part of Belgium today). Later, their family name changed from De la Noye to Delano. Some of them even traveled to America on the second ship to Plymouth, Massachusetts.

When Jean Delannoy was a student in Paris, he started acting in silent films. These were movies without sound. He later got a job at Paramount Studios in Paris. He worked hard and eventually became the head film editor. This meant he was in charge of putting all the film clips together to make a movie.

In 1934, he directed his very first movie. He then had a long career, both writing and directing many films. In 1946, he directed a movie called La symphonie pastorale. This film was about a Protestant minister. It won a special award called the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. This is one of the most important awards in the movie world.

Later, in 1960, his movie Maigret tend un piège was nominated for a BAFTA award. This award was for "Best Film from any Source." It showed how good his movies were. In 1986, Jean Delannoy received an Honorary César Award. This award recognized his many years of hard work and contributions to the French movie industry.

Jean Delannoy lived a very long life. He passed away on June 18, 2008, when he was 100 years old.
