Jahmai Fitzgerald Jones (born August 4, 1997) is an American professional baseball player. He plays as an outfielder and second baseman for the Detroit Tigers. He has also played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for teams like the Los Angeles Angels, Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, and New York Yankees. Jahmai first played in the MLB in 2020 with the Angels.

Early Baseball Days
Jahmai Jones went to the Wesleyan School in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. When he was younger, he played football. In his first two years, he caught the ball for over 1,100 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
After that, he decided to focus only on baseball. In his final year of high school, he was a fantastic player. He hit for a .464 batting average, which means he got a hit almost half the times he batted. He also hit eight home runs and helped his team score 21 runs batted in (RBIs). Plus, he was super fast, stealing 40 bases! Because of his great skills, he was named the Gwinnett Daily Post Baseball Player of the Year.
In 2015, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim picked him in the second round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. This was a big step towards his dream of playing professional baseball.
Professional Baseball Journey
Starting with the Angels
Jahmai Jones began his professional career with the Arizona League Angels in 2015. He played the whole year there. He had a batting average of .244, hit two home runs, and stole 16 bases.
In 2016, he started with the Orem Owlz. Later that year, he moved up to the Burlington Bees. Between both teams, he played 64 games. He finished the year with a .302 batting average, four home runs, and 20 stolen bases.
He continued to play well in 2017 for the Burlington Bees and the Inland Empire 66ers. He hit 14 home runs and stole 27 bases. In 2018, he played for Inland and the Mobile BayBears. He hit 10 home runs and stole 24 bases that year.
In 2019, Jahmai played for the Mobile BayBears again. After the season, he was chosen to play in the Arizona Fall League. He was also added to the Angels' main roster, which meant he was closer to playing in the MLB.
On August 31, 2020, Jahmai Jones made his first appearance in a Major League Baseball game. He came in as a pinch runner. A few weeks later, on September 26, 2020, he got his very first MLB hit!
Time with the Orioles
In February 2021, Jahmai was traded to the Baltimore Orioles. He played for their Triple-A team, the Norfolk Tides. In May 2022, he had surgery for an arm injury. He played in 67 games for the Orioles in 2021. He had 3 RBIs and 5 runs.
Joining the Dodgers
Jahmai signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in July 2022. He played for their Triple-A team, the Oklahoma City Dodgers. In 2023, he played 62 games and had a .293 batting average. He also hit nine home runs and had 34 RBIs. In July 2023, he chose to become a free agent.
Playing for the Brewers
Soon after, in July 2023, Jahmai signed with the Milwaukee Brewers. He joined their main team right away. In his first game with the Brewers, he got a big hit that tied the game and brought in three runs! He played seven games for Milwaukee.
With the Yankees
In February 2024, Jahmai Jones joined the New York Yankees. He even made the team's Opening Day roster! On May 12, he hit his first ever Major League home run. He played 33 games for the Yankees. He hit one home run and had four RBIs. In July, he left the Yankees and became a free agent in November.
Signing with the Tigers
On November 20, 2024, Jahmai Jones signed a contract with the Detroit Tigers. He is now part of their organization.
Family Life
Jahmai comes from a family of athletes! His father, Andre Jones, played professional football in the National Football League (NFL) for the Detroit Lions.
Jahmai also has two brothers who play football. His brother, T. J. Jones, was an NFL wide receiver. His other brother, Malachi Jones, plays in the National Arena League (NAL) for the Albany Empire.
