Jaime Fernando Thorne León (born September 11, 1943 – died April 5, 2018) was an important Peruvian politician. He worked as the Minister of Defense for Peru. He served in this role under President Alan García Pérez from September 2010 to July 2011.

Jaime Thorne León was born in Lima, Peru. His father, Rollin Thorne Sologuren, was a banker and merchant. His mother was María Josefina Teresa León y Bueno. Jaime Thorne León came from a family with a history of public service. His grandfather, José Matías León y Carrera, was a former Minister of Justice.
His Education and Career Path
Jaime Thorne León went to school at Colegio Inmaculado Corazón and Colegio Santa María Marianistas. He then studied law at two universities in Peru. He also earned a special degree in financial accounting.
He became a lawyer and was very active in his field. He worked as an arbitrator for the Lima Chamber of Commerce. He also taught Civil Procedural Law at the University of Lima. He was one of the people who started the law firm Thorne, Echeandía & Lema Abogados.
Before becoming a minister, Thorne León was the President of INDECOPI. This is Peru's National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property. It helps make sure businesses compete fairly and protects new ideas.
Serving as Minister of Defense
In September 2010, President Alan García chose Jaime Thorne León to be the Minister of Defense. In this role, he was in charge of Peru's military and national security. He served as Minister of Defense until July 2011.
