James John Drury (born August 15, 1835 – died December 25, 1919) was a brave soldier from Ireland. He fought for the United States during the American Civil War. James Drury earned the Medal of Honor, which is the highest award for bravery a soldier can receive in the U.S. He got this award for his actions during a battle called the Battle of Jerusalem Plank Road on June 23, 1864. He received the medal on January 18, 1893.
About James John Drury
James John Drury was born in Limerick, Ireland on August 15, 1835. When the American Civil War began, he joined the army. In August 1861, he became a soldier in the 4th Vermont Infantry. This was a group of soldiers from Vermont.
He served in the army until July 1865. At that time, his group of soldiers, called a regiment, was officially released from duty. James Drury passed away on December 25, 1919. He was buried at the Lovilia Cemetery in Lovilia, Iowa.
