James Edward Hamilton, 4th Duke of Abercorn (born 29 February 1904 – died 4 June 1979) was an important person in British society and politics. He held special titles like Viscount Strabane and Marquess of Hamilton before becoming the Duke of Abercorn.
He was the son of James Hamilton, 3rd Duke of Abercorn, and Lady Rosalind Cecilia Caroline Bingham. When his father passed away in 1953, James Edward Hamilton inherited his family's titles and responsibilities.

Life and Public Service
James Edward Hamilton, also known as Lord Hamilton, went to Eton College, a famous school in England. After school, he joined the Grenadier Guards, which is a part of the British Army. He worked his way up to become a captain.
Serving County Tyrone
In 1946, he started his public service career. He was chosen to be part of the County Council for County Tyrone in Northern Ireland. This council helps manage local affairs.
He also served as the High Sheriff of Tyrone. This was an important role, similar to a chief law enforcement officer for the county. Later, he became a member of the Senate of Northern Ireland. This was a part of the government that helped make laws for Northern Ireland.
Lord Lieutenant Role
When his father died, James Edward Hamilton took on the role of Lord Lieutenant of County Tyrone. A Lord Lieutenant is the King or Queen's personal representative in a county. It's a very respected position, and he held it for the rest of his life.
He was also given the honorary title of colonel for the 5th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. This was a special unit of the Territorial Army, which is made up of part-time soldiers. He passed away at the age of 75.
Family Life
In 1928, James Edward Hamilton married Lady Kathleen Crichton. She was born in 1905 and passed away in 1990. Her father was Henry Crichton, Viscount Crichton.
They had three children together:

- Lord Claud Anthony Hamilton (born 1939)
Lord Claud Hamilton's Service
Lord Claud Anthony Hamilton also followed in his family's footsteps of public service. In 1978, he became a Deputy Lieutenant for County Fermanagh. He was also the High Sheriff of Fermanagh in 1990. In 1991, he became a Justice of the Peace for the county, which means he could help with legal matters.
In 1982, Lord Claud Hamilton married Catherine Janet Faulkner. They have a son and a daughter.
