James Lee Pattinson (born 3 May 1990) is an Australian cricketer. He is known as a strong and fast bowler. James played Test cricket and other types of cricket for the Australia national cricket team. However, he often had to take breaks from playing because of back injuries.

About James Pattinson

Early Life and Family

James Pattinson grew up in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. He went to a school called Haileybury (Melbourne). His older brother, Darren Pattinson, also played cricket, even for the England team in one Test match.

Playing for Teams

James started his cricket journey playing for the Dandenong Cricket Club. He also represented Australia in the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia in 2008.

In 2009, James set a new record for his team, Victoria. He took six wickets for only 48 runs in a List A match. This was a great achievement for a bowler!

He also played in the Indian Premier League (IPL), a big cricket tournament. He was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team in 2013, but he couldn't play due to health reasons. Later, in 2020, he joined the Mumbai Indians team and played regularly for them.

In March 2021, James reached another milestone. He took his 300th wicket in first-class cricket. This shows how many batters he has gotten out over his career!

During the 2021-22 season, James was suspended for one match. This happened after he accidentally hit another player, Daniel Hughes, with the ball.

James Pattinson's International Career

Playing for Australia

James Pattinson first joined the Australian team for One Day International (ODI) matches in April 2011. He played his first ODI game against Bangladesh and took his first international wicket.

Later that year, in December 2011, James made his Test debut for Australia against New Zealand. He had an amazing start, taking 5 wickets for only 27 runs in the second part of the game. This helped Australia win the match. He was even named the "Man of the Series" for his excellent performance in that series.

In his very next Test match, the famous 2011 Boxing Day Test against India, he again performed brilliantly. He took 6 wickets and scored 55 runs, earning him another "Man of the Match" award.

After recovering from an injury, James returned to the Australian team in March 2013. He took another 5-wicket haul against India, showing his skill even on a difficult pitch. He was the first Australian fast bowler to achieve this at that stadium.

In December 2015, James made another comeback to the Test team. He took 5 wickets for 27 runs, matching his best bowling figures. He also changed his bowling style to gain more control and speed.

In April 2019, James was given a national contract by Cricket Australia. This meant he was a key player for the Australian team. He also played in the 2019 Ashes series against England, which is a very important cricket series.

Retirement from Test Cricket

In October 2021, James Pattinson announced that he was retiring from Test cricket. He had been dealing with a knee injury, which, along with other injuries, had limited how many Test matches he could play.
