History of Jamestown

For a short time, Jamestown was the main town, or county seat, for Boone County. But in 1831, the state government decided that the county seat needed to be moved. It was moved to a more central location within the county.
In 1869, a railroad line came right through the middle of Jamestown. This railroad is still used today for moving goods. Later, an interurban service also ran through town. Interurbans were like electric trains that connected towns. This service operated from 1912 for some years.
