Jan C. Perry (born June 8, 1955) is an American politician from California. She is a member of the Democratic Party. She served on the Los Angeles City Council from 2001 to 2013, helping to make important decisions for the city.

Jan Perry's Work in Los Angeles

Jan Perry served on the Los Angeles City Council for 12 years, from 2001 to 2013. She represented the Ninth District. During her time, she was also the president pro tempore of the Council. This means she helped lead meetings and make sure things ran smoothly.

Jan Perry was first elected in 2001. She took over from Councilwoman Rita Walters, for whom she had worked before. She was re-elected in 2005 and 2009.

One of her big projects was helping to limit new fast food restaurants in her district. This was part of a plan to help people eat healthier. She also helped create new public parks. These parks gave people places to be active outdoors. She also worked to bring more grocery stores to her district. This made it easier for people to buy fresh, healthy food.

After leaving the City Council, Jan Perry became the general manager of the Los Angeles Economic & Workforce Development Department (EWDD). She was appointed by Mayor Eric Garcetti in 2013. She stepped down from this role at the end of 2018.

In 2022, Jan Perry ran for Congress in California's 37th congressional district. She wanted to take over from Karen Bass, who was elected mayor of Los Angeles. Perry was not elected, and Sydney Kamlager won the election.

The Jan Perry Wetlands Project

A large, unused bus maintenance yard was turned into a special park. This park is called the South Los Angeles storm water wetlands and community park. It is about 9 acres in size.

The Los Angeles City Council decided to rename the park "The Jan Perry Wetlands." They did this to honor her hard work on the project.

This project helps clean storm water before it flows into the ocean. It has about 4 acres of wetlands that treat the water. There is also open park space and a parking lot designed to drain water into the wetlands. The park also offers places to watch wildlife and learn about nature. This important project was finished in December 2011.

The project was paid for by different sources. These included Los Angeles Proposition "O" (a 2004 bond measure), state and local grants, and money from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
