Jan Jacobus Wouters (born on July 17, 1960) is a famous Dutch football coach and former player. He played as a defensive midfielder, which is a player who helps protect the defense. In 1990, he was named the Dutch Footballer of the Year, a big award for the best player in the Netherlands.

Playing Career Highlights
Jan Wouters played for several well-known football clubs during his career. These included PSV, Utrecht, Bayern Munich, and Ajax. He was also a very important player for the Netherlands national team. He played in 70 international matches and scored four goals for his country.
Winning the European Championship
Jan Wouters was a key player when the Netherlands won the European Football Championship in 1988. This was a huge achievement for Dutch football. His strong play in midfield helped his team become champions of Europe.
Coaching Roles
After his playing career, Wouters became a football coach. He worked as an assistant coach for the Scottish Premier League club Rangers under managers Dick Advocaat and Alex McLeish. He left Rangers at the end of the 2005–06 season. He has also coached at other clubs, including Utrecht, PSV, and Ajax's youth teams. As of 2022, he has been an assistant coach for Ajax's youth teams.
Memorable Match Incident
In 1993, during a World Cup qualifying match at Wembley Stadium, Jan Wouters was involved in an incident with England's player Paul Gascoigne. Gascoigne suffered a fractured cheekbone during the game. Because of this injury, Gascoigne had to wear a special facemask to protect his face while it healed. The match ended in a 2–2 draw, which made it harder for England to qualify for the 1994 World Cup.
