Jano's Club Journey
Playing for Spartak Moscow
Jano Ananidze joined Spartak Moscow in the spring of 2009. He first played for their junior team. He scored four goals in twelve games for the junior squad.
Later that year, his coach moved him to the main team. Jano made his first appearance in the Russian Cup on July 15, 2009. He even scored a goal in that game! On August 1, 2009, he played his first regular league game.
On October 18, 2009, Jano made history. He became the youngest player ever to score a goal in the Russian Premier League. He was only 17 years and 8 days old when he scored for Spartak Moscow.
After his great first season, big clubs like Arsenal, Milan, and Juventus noticed him. But Spartak Moscow wanted him to stay. They said they would not consider offers until he was at least 20 years old.
In September 2012, before a big World Cup qualification match, the famous Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas mentioned Jano. Casillas said Jano was one of the key players for the Georgian national team.
Jano's time with Spartak Moscow ended on January 21, 2020. He left the club by agreement, 13 years after he first joined their academy.
Loan to FC Rostov
On July 3, 2013, Jano went on a one-year loan to FC Rostov. This meant he played for Rostov for a season, but Spartak still owned his contract.
Loan to Krylia Sovetov Samara
On January 13, 2019, Jano joined Krylia Sovetov Samara. This was also a loan, lasting until the end of the 2018–19 season.
Time with Rotor Volgograd
On August 6, 2020, Jano returned to the Russian Premier League. He signed with Rotor Volgograd. However, his contract with Rotor ended quickly. It was cancelled on September 12, 2020, because of a knee injury.
Playing for Dinamo Tbilisi
On April 29, 2021, Jano went back to his home country, Georgia. He joined Dinamo Tbilisi on a one-year contract. But on December 3, 2021, Dinamo Tbilisi announced that Jano was leaving. He had only played for 26 minutes with the club.
In April 2022, Jano announced he was retiring from football. He ended his career because of many injuries. Before retiring, he played for Dinamo Batumi for three months. During that time, he was on the field for only 122 minutes in total.
International Career
In March 2009, the UEFA website named Jano Ananidze as one of the "key players" for the Georgian U-17 team.
In July 2009, Jano was invited to play for the main Georgia national team. He accepted the invitation. He told Russian media that he was Georgian and would play for his country.
He played his first game for Georgia on September 5, 2009. It was a home game against Italy, which Georgia lost 2–0.
Jano scored his first goal for Georgia on November 17, 2010, against Slovenia. He scored his second goal against Moldova from a penalty kick on November 11, 2011. Georgia won that game 2–0.
