Jared Francis Harris (born 24 August 1961) is a British actor known for playing many different characters in movies and on television. He has played important roles like Lane Pryce in the TV series Mad Men and King George VI in The Crown.
He is also famous for his role as the scientist Valery Legasov in the miniseries Chernobyl. For this role, he won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor. You might also know him as the villain Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows or as the main character Hari Seldon in the science fiction series Foundation.

Early Life and Education
Jared Francis Harris was born on August 24, 1961, in Hammersmith, London. His father was the famous Irish actor Richard Harris, and his mother, Elizabeth Rees-Williams, was a Welsh actress. He is the middle of three brothers. His older brother, Damian, is a director, and his younger brother, Jamie, is also an actor.
Harris and his brothers went to a boarding school called Ladycross School. He said the school was known for being very strict. Because there were three Harris brothers, they were called by their last name and a Latin word for their age. His older brother was "Harris Ma" (major), Jared was "Harris Mi" (minor), and his younger brother was "Harris Minimus" (smallest).
After Ladycross, he attended Downside School. He later moved to the United States to study at Duke University in North Carolina, where he earned a degree in drama in 1984. He then returned to England to study acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.
Acting Career

Jared Harris began his acting career in the late 1980s. Over the years, he has played a wide variety of roles, showing his talent in both movies and television shows.
Famous Television Roles
Harris became well-known for playing Lane Pryce in the popular TV show Mad Men. The show is about people working in advertising in New York City during the 1960s. His performance earned him a nomination for an Emmy Award.
In the historical drama The Crown, he played King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth II. Critics praised his performance for showing the king's quiet and sensitive personality.
In 2018, he starred as Captain Francis Crozier in The Terror. The series tells a fictional story about a real-life lost expedition to the Arctic. For this role, he received a special medal from the Royal Canadian Geographical Society for helping people learn about Canadian geography.
