The Terror is an American TV show that tells different scary stories each season. It's called an "anthology" series because each season has its own unique plot and characters. The first season is based on a book called The Terror by Dan Simmons. The show first aired on March 25, 2018. A second season, named Infamy, started on August 12, 2019.
The first season was created by David Kajganich. It tells a made-up story about Captain Sir John Franklin's real-life lost trip to the Arctic between 1845 and 1848. Key actors in this season include Jared Harris as Captain Francis Crozier and Tobias Menzies as Commander James Fitzjames. The second season was created by Alexander Woo and Max Borenstein. It takes place in a Japanese internment camp during World War II. This season stars Derek Mio and George Takei.
What the Show is About
Season 1: The Arctic Expedition
The first season of The Terror follows two Royal Navy explorer ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror. They have just left Beechey Island in the Canadian Arctic. Their mission is to find the Northwest Passage, a sea route through the Arctic.
However, the ships soon get stuck in thick ice. The crew must try to survive the extremely cold weather and the dangers around them. They also face a mysterious creature that is hunting them.
Season 2: Infamy in World War II
The second season, The Terror: Infamy, is set on the west coast of the United States during World War II. This story focuses on a Japanese folk tale about a "bakemono." A bakemono is a scary ghost or monster. This creature threatens a Japanese American community. The story follows them from their homes in Southern California to the internment camps where they were held during the war.

How the Show Was Made
Making Season 1
After the TV show The Walking Dead became very popular, the TV network AMC decided to make a horror series based on the book The Terror. In March 2016, AMC ordered 10 episodes of the show. It was planned to air in 2018.
David Kajganich and Soo Hugh were the main people in charge of the show. Ridley Scott was one of the executive producers. In September 2016, Tobias Menzies was chosen for a main role. The show's creators also looked for an Inuit woman, aged 16 to 30, to play an important character, likely Lady Silence. Many of the scenes showing ice were created using CGI, which means they were made with computers.
Making Season 2
The second season, called The Terror: Infamy, also has 10 episodes. It was created by Max Borenstein and Alexander Woo. Alexander Woo was also the showrunner.
Derek Mio was cast as the main character, Chester Nakayama. George Takei plays Yamato-san, an older community member who was held in Japanese-American internment camps during World War II. George Takei also helped the show's creators make sure the historical events were shown correctly. Other actors include Kiki Sukezane as Yuko, Shingo Usami as Henry Nakayama, Naoko Mori as Asako Nakayama, and Miki Ishikawa as Amy. Filming for this season started on January 14, 2019, in Vancouver.
Future of the Show
In January 2020, there were reports that AMC was interested in making a third season of The Terror. AMC and Scott Free Productions were talking about new story ideas.
When the Show Aired
The first season of The Terror first aired on AMC in the United States and Canada on March 25, 2018. It finished on May 21, 2018. In most other countries, it was released on Amazon Prime Video starting March 26, 2018. In the United Kingdom, The Terror started on AMC on April 24, 2018, and later on BBC Two on March 3, 2021.
