Jared Petrenko's Football Journey
Starting His Career
Jared began his football journey playing for the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club. This team is part of the SANFL, which is a major football league in South Australia. He was chosen by the Adelaide Crows in the 2007 Rookie Draft. This draft is how new players join AFL teams. Jared was the 25th player picked in that draft.
Making His AFL Debut
After being a "rookie" player, Jared was moved up to the main team. He made his first AFL appearance in 2009. This was in a game against the Collingwood team. During that season, he showed off his amazing speed and strong tackling skills. He was a player who was often in and out of the main team.
A Dream Not Quite Realized
Even though Jared grew up in South Australia, he was a big fan of the St Kilda Football Club. He hoped they would pick him in the draft. However, he ended up being chosen by the Adelaide Crows instead.
Moving On from the Crows
Jared finished playing for the Adelaide Crows at the end of the 2014 AFL season. In February 2015, he got a short-term contract with the Essendon team. He joined them as a "top-up" player for the 2015 NAB Challenge. This happened because many Essendon players were not available at the time.
