Jaret Patterson (born December 23, 1998) is an American professional football player. He is a running back for the Los Angeles Chargers in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Buffalo Bulls. Patterson holds a special record: he tied the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision record for most rushing touchdowns in a single game with eight.

Early Life and High School Football
Jaret Patterson grew up in Laurel, Maryland. He went to St. Vincent Pallotti High School. There, he played football with Chase Young, who later became an NFL star. In his final year of high school, Jaret ran for an amazing 2,045 yards. He also scored 23 touchdowns. In one game, he gained 558 total yards, which was a huge achievement.
Jaret was recognized as an All-State Honorable Mention for his skills. He decided to play college football at the University at Buffalo. He and his twin brother, James, were recruited to Buffalo together.

College Football Career
Jaret and his brother joined the Buffalo Bulls team in 2018. In his first year, 2018, Jaret ran for 1,013 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. He was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year. He also made the All-MAC Second-team.
Record-Breaking Seasons
In 2019, Jaret had an even better season. He set a new school record by rushing for 1,799 yards. He also scored 19 rushing touchdowns, another school record. He led his conference in rushing yards and was fifth in the entire nation. He was named to the All-MAC First-team. In the 2019 Bahamas Bowl, Jaret ran for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Buffalo won the game, their first bowl win ever, and Jaret was named the game's offensive MVP.
On November 28, 2020, Jaret made history. He tied an FBS record by scoring eight rushing touchdowns in one game. This happened in a 70–41 win against the Kent State Golden Flashes. Jaret finished that game with 409 rushing yards. This was just 18 yards short of the all-time single-game FBS record. After this amazing season, Jaret was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year. He also received the Vern Smith Leadership Award, which is given to the conference's most valuable player.

Washington Football Team / Commanders (First Time)
Jaret Patterson joined the Washington Football Team on May 3, 2021. He was not chosen in the 2021 NFL draft, but he signed with the team as an undrafted free agent. He played well during the preseason games in 2021. His coach, Ron Rivera, praised his performance. Jaret earned a spot on the team's main roster.
At the start of the 2021 season, Jaret was the third running back on the team. He played his first professional game in the first week. He ran the ball twice for nine yards. In later games, he mostly played on special teams. In Week 4, he caught his first pass for eleven yards, which led to a first down. In Week 8, he had his best game of the season so far. He ran the ball eleven times for 46 yards.
In Week 15, Jaret scored his first NFL touchdown. This happened against the Philadelphia Eagles. He ran the ball into the end zone from one yard out. He also got his first start in Week 17, again against the Eagles. In that game, he ran for 57 yards and scored another touchdown. He also caught five passes for 41 yards.
On August 30, 2022, Jaret was waived by the Commanders. He then signed with their practice squad. He stayed on the practice squad for most of 2022. On November 14, he was called up to the main team for a game. He played a few snaps on special teams. On January 1, 2023, he returned kicks for the first time in his NFL career. He gained 70 yards on three returns. He was signed to the active roster again on January 5, 2023. In the final game of the season, Jaret got his first offensive touches. He led the team with 17 carries and 78 rushing yards, both career highs. On August 28, 2023, Jaret was released by the Commanders.
Los Angeles Chargers (First Time)
On September 13, 2023, the Los Angeles Chargers signed Jaret to their practice squad. He was released from the practice squad on December 20, 2023.
Washington Commanders (Second Time)
On December 26, 2023, Jaret signed with the practice squad of the Washington Commanders again. He became a free agent after the season ended.
Los Angeles Chargers (Second Time)
On January 10, 2024, Jaret Patterson signed a reserve/future contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. He was waived on August 29, 2024, but then re-signed to their practice squad. He was called up to the active roster on December 7, 2024. He played one special teams play for the Chargers the next day. This was his only appearance that season. He signed another reserve/future contract on January 13, 2025.
