For many years, this hospital was an important place for public health near Washington, D.C. Even though it is now abandoned and will eventually be taken down, it has a lot of history. Park Police regularly patrol the hospital grounds.

The hospital was featured in an article in Washington Post Magazine in 2006. The article was called "Quarantined" and was written by Leah Y. Latimer. It shared the story of her mother's time at the hospital in the 1950s. In 2008, Ms. Latimer gave a talk at the hospital grounds. This was the first time the public was allowed there in almost 30 years. Over 150 people came to hear her speak.

The hospital was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. This means it is recognized as an important historical site.
