Jason Bourgeois (pronounced booj-wa) was born on January 4, 1982. He is an American former professional baseball player. Jason played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). He is currently the first base coach for the Chicago White Sox. During his playing career, he played for teams like the Houston Astros and the Cincinnati Reds. Jason was a versatile player, able to play all outfield positions and even second base.

Early Life and Baseball Beginnings
Jason Bourgeois grew up in Houston, Texas. When he was a kid, he played on a Little League team that won the state championship. Two other future MLB outfielders, Carl Crawford and Michael Bourn, were also on that team!
Jason went to Forest Brook High School. In his final year there, he was an amazing hitter. He had a batting average of .553, hit four home runs, and brought in 43 runs for his team. He also stole 24 bases, showing off his speed.
Jason's Professional Baseball Journey
Jason Bourgeois started his professional career after being drafted in 2000. He played for several different teams during his time in baseball.
Starting with the Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers drafted Jason in the second round of the 2000 Major League Baseball draft. He was drafted as a shortstop. He played in the Rangers' minor league system until 2004.
Moving to the Atlanta Braves
In 2005, the Atlanta Braves picked up Jason. He spent that whole season playing for their Triple-A team, the Richmond Braves.
Playing for the Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners chose Jason in the Rule 5 Draft in December 2005. He played for their Double-A team, the San Antonio Missions. He hit .277 and stole 23 bases that season.
First Time with the Chicago White Sox
Jason signed with the Chicago White Sox in December 2006. He made his big league debut on September 9, 2008. He entered the game against the Toronto Blue Jays as a pinch runner. Jason Bourgeois holds a special place in history: he was the last player to get his first major league hit at the original Yankee Stadium.
Time with the Milwaukee Brewers
In 2008, the Milwaukee Brewers signed Jason. He played for their Triple-A team, the Nashville Sounds. In 2009, he hit his first major league home run. It was against Zach Duke of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Joining the Houston Astros
The Houston Astros claimed Jason in October 2009. In 2010, he was added to the Astros' major league roster. He played in 69 games that year. He also started many games in the outfield when the regular center fielder, Michael Bourn, was injured.
On April 30, 2011, Jason had a fantastic game. He got his first career walk-off win with a single in the bottom of the ninth inning. This hit scored a run and gave the Astros a 2–1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. He had three hits and two stolen bases in that game. Later that year, he hit his second major league home run against his former team, the Brewers.
Playing for the Kansas City Royals
In March 2012, Jason was traded to the Kansas City Royals. He played in 30 games for the Royals that season. He hit .258 and stole five bases. Most of his time was spent with their Triple-A team, the Omaha Storm Chasers.
With the Tampa Bay Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays signed Jason in December 2012. He played most of his season with their Triple-A team, the Durham Bulls. He had a .290 batting average there. In August 2013, Jason hit another walk-off RBI single to help the Rays beat the Seattle Mariners.
Playing for the Cincinnati Reds
Jason signed with the Cincinnati Reds in November 2013. In 2014, he joined the Reds' major league team. He played a bigger role for the Reds in 2015, playing in 68 games.
Later Playing Career
After his time with the Reds, Jason signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015. He played for their Triple-A team, the Reno Aces. In May 2016, he was traded back to the Chicago White Sox for his second time. He played for their Triple-A team, the Charlotte Knights. He finished that season hitting .273. He returned to Charlotte in 2017.
In 2017, Jason also played for the Tigres de Quintana Roo in the Mexican Baseball League.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Jason Bourgeois became a coach. In 2019, he was announced as an assistant coach for the Great Lakes Loons. This team is part of the Los Angeles Dodgers' farm system.
On November 7, 2023, Jason Bourgeois was named the first base and outfield coach for the Chicago White Sox.
Personal Life
Jason Bourgeois is married to Coline Creuzot, who is an American singer and songwriter. They had their first child in 2015.
