Jason Jerrod Bourgeois (BOOJ-wa; born January 4, 1982) is a former professional baseball player. He used to play as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). Now, he is a first base coach for the Chicago White Sox. He played for eight seasons in MLB, including two years with the Houston Astros and two years with the Cincinnati Reds. He could play all outfield spots and even second base.

Early Baseball Days: A Champion in the Making
Jason Bourgeois grew up in Houston, Texas. He played little league with future MLB stars Carl Crawford and Michael Bourn. Their team even won a state championship!
Jason later went to Forest Brook High School. In his final year, he was an amazing hitter. He hit for a .553 batting average. He also hit four home runs and had 43 runs batted in (RBI). Plus, he stole 24 bases, showing off his speed.
Starting His Professional Journey: From Draft Pick to MLB
Drafted by the Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers picked Jason in the second round of the 2000 Major League Baseball draft. He was the 56th player chosen overall. At first, he played as a shortstop. He spent time in the Rangers' minor league system until 2004. He made it as high as Double-A.
Moving to the Atlanta Braves
On March 23, 2005, the Atlanta Braves picked up Jason. He spent the whole season playing for their Triple-A team, the Richmond Braves. He played in 119 games that year.
Joining the Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners chose Jason in the Rule 5 Draft on December 8, 2005. He played 107 games for their Double-A team, the San Antonio Missions. He batted .277 and stole 23 bases. After this season, he became a free agent in the minor leagues.
First Stint with the Chicago White Sox
Jason signed with the Chicago White Sox on December 19, 2006. He was called up to the White Sox on September 6, 2008. He made his very first MLB appearance on September 9. He entered the game against the Toronto Blue Jays as a pinch runner. Jason Bourgeois holds a special record. He was the last player ever to get his first major league hit at the original Yankee Stadium.
Playing for the Milwaukee Brewers
On November 24, 2008, the Milwaukee Brewers signed Jason. He joined their Triple-A team, the Nashville Sounds. In 2009, he played 24 games for the Brewers. He hit his first big league home run on August 28. It was against Zach Duke of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Jason was called up to the Brewers on August 12, 2009. He replaced Bill Hall on the team. This happened again on June 4, 2011. The Houston Astros released Bill Hall after Jason came back from an injury.
Time with the Houston Astros
The Houston Astros claimed Jason on October 26, 2009. On January 20, 2010, he accepted a move to their Triple-A team, Triple A Round Rock.
On June 20, 2010, Jason was added to the Astros' major league team. He played in 69 games for the Astros that year. He also started twelve games in September and October. This happened after their main center fielder, Michael Bourn, got injured.
On April 30, 2011, Jason had a huge game. He got his first career walk-off win. His single in the ninth inning scored a run to give the Astros a 2–1 victory. He had three hits and two stolen bases in that game. Later that year, on July 31, he hit his second major league home run.
Adventures with the Kansas City Royals
On March 20, 2012, Jason was traded to the Kansas City Royals. He played in 30 games for the Royals in 2012. He batted .258 and stole five bases. Most of his season was spent with their Triple-A team, the Omaha Storm Chasers. On November 2, 2012, the Royals made him a free agent.
Joining the Tampa Bay Rays
On December 5, 2012, the Tampa Bay Rays signed Jason. He played most of his season with their Triple-A team, the Durham Bulls. He batted .290 with two home runs. On August 14, he hit a walk-off RBI single for the Rays. This helped them beat the Seattle Mariners.
Playing for the Cincinnati Reds
On November 5, 2013, Jason signed with the Cincinnati Reds. On September 1, 2014, the Reds called him up from their Triple-A team, the Louisville Bats. He played in 18 games. Jason took on a bigger role for Cincinnati in 2015. He played in 68 games, hitting three home runs.
Later Playing Career: Arizona and a Second Stint in Chicago
On December 23, 2015, Jason signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He started the season with their Triple-A team, the Reno Aces. He batted .356 in 33 games.
Jason was traded back to the Chicago White Sox on May 16, 2016. He played for their Triple-A team, the Charlotte Knights. He hit .273 with three home runs. After the season, he became a free agent. On January 17, 2017, the White Sox re-signed him. He played for Charlotte again, hitting four home runs.
Playing in Mexico
On December 4, 2017, Jason signed with the Tigres de Quintana Roo in the Mexican Baseball League. He played there until July 15, 2018.
Coaching Career: Back in the Big Leagues
On January 16, 2019, Jason became an assistant coach. He worked for the Great Lakes Loons in the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system.
On November 7, 2023, Jason Bourgeois was named the first base coach for the Chicago White Sox. This brought him back to the major leagues in a coaching role.
Personal Life
Jason Bourgeois is married to Coline Creuzot, an American singer and songwriter. They had their first child in 2015.
